This is a pretty bold step by Hallmark Institute and an expensive one also. These backs are $25K a pop, so that is a significant investment for the school. I don't know how many students they have, but I would assume its at least in the hundreds from what I've seen on their website at http://hallmark.edu/

Actually I read in another article that they had 100 backs prior, so they may have just upgraded to the 22MP backs.

Hallmark is a for-profit, right?

Doesn't that sort of scream overkill though? It really isn't about what kind of equipment you are using, its what each individual artist can create.

Give them all holga plastic's and I'm sure they would be just as inspired.

I'm not all that familiar with Hallmark - are they grooming them to be fashion photographers in the job-market?

It looks as if HallMark Institute wants to be the "Brooks Institute" (California) of the Northeast or the Maryland Institute of the (pardon the pun) South. Neither one of these two schools has anything like that but Brooks Institute does award B.S. & Masters degrees in Photographic Education and Maryland Institute in Baltimore awards M.F.A.'s in Photography and Graphic Design.
Now what about Rochester Institute of Technology?

Our member "fadeout", is a Jr. in the RIT Photography program. RITs program is much more comprehensive I think than anything the other schools offer, and they have a ton of specialties... from years of partnerships with Kodak and Xerox, both located in Rochester. He said that they use medium format and large format, and that they can "check out" just about anything, including the digital backs, from the school's equipment inventory to use for school projects.
