Wonderful shots as usual Tom. Just love the second one, the lighting is superb on it.
Shot New England Central train NERWPA last night (11/20/09) on their way back north to Palmer, MA. Power was a lone Florida East Coast Railway SD40-2. I got my shots in Mansfield Depot and Stafford Springs, CT. Both were with the 50D/Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC and Lumedyne flash. Other settings varied between the two, and are noted below. Both were processed with Lightroom, cleaned up a bit with NoiseNinja and given a touch of Velvia Vision in CS2.
1. Mansfield Depot, CT Depot Road crossing. ISO 1600, f/8, 1/125s
2. Stafford Springs, CT along the Mill Ponds River. ISO 3200, f/6.3, 1/80s (wanted more ambient light)

Thanks Sandy! Still tweaking my methods - glad to see that I'm moving in the right direction...Well, that and I love shooting at high ISO with the 50D now!

Hi Tom, Those are great shots...you really nailled em. Looks like the 50D and the Sigma 18-50mm f/2 EX DC is a great combination. Incidentally, I never got back to you to thank you for your help answering the Custom function setting for the 50D. THANK YOU !!!
I am considering buying a new lens in the 18-50 or 55mm range and I have a question for you regarding this issue but don't want to sideline your original post by including it here... Perhaps I will ask it in a PM.
Have a great Thanksgiving. Regards, Fred
