I am not sure if its good enough..

Could you guys please give me an honest opinion and tell me what you think about my photo, what i need to look out for and so on.

All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

First off welcome... from a LOOOONG ways away...

I took a look at your shot and I am jealous that you got such a nice close up shot of a Owl...

For a critique its good to know what camera/lens/settings you used so that we can judge the photo against your capabilities of gear as well... but that being said...

Its a fantastic close up... the image looks crisp and clear... my nitpick is that with the crop so close you lost part of the owls ear... as well as a little bit of his body on the right side... the body isnt so much of an issue as the ear... a slight bit less of crop would maybe help... the other this is I would have possibly used a flash on very low power for some fill... so you could bring the background colors a little more into their normal color (currently a little blown out) as well as giving the owl some catchlights in his eyes...

Overall its a stunning photo and my critique basically is what I would add if I had taken the shot... which falls under interpretation...

    Again... welcome!

i think ross was spot on with his critique, not much to change, its a really good image. there are a few things that would add to it but in all honesty i wouldn't remember to do all that stuff.

As it stands now Its really good. All I would do with this particular image, because it has already been shot, would be to make another layer in photoshop and Lighten it, Concentrating on the left side where its shadowed and try to bring that into about the same light as the rest of the bird, then blend the two.. get it pretty even toned. It is a great shot. Good luck in the contest.

Now, Welcome.. How did you find us all the way from South Africa?? Must get some really great photo opps out there huh?
