for all you who like to shoot Birds... lots of cool stuff http://www.whatbird.com/
I spent Saturday morning down at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware before heading up to the Forsythe NWR in Jersey for the Afternoon. The bird counts are starting to pickup. BBH has a few Egrets and Herons and I suspect they will be in the hundreds within a month. Forsythe has...
Took my recently acquired D200 out Sunday for a test run. Went to The Celery Farm, and small wildlife preserve in Allendale, NJ. This is a very nice location with a nice variety of birds to be seen. I think I did pretty well for the first time out with the camera. 1. Wood Ducks (male and female)...
I got reports of a very large flock of Snow Geese that has been down in NJ the last several days. Knowing they are migrating I knew they would not be there long. They had already been there 3 days, so time was getting short for me. Had Saturday off work so I drove almost 400 miles round trip in the...
I saw this bird the other day at a swamp. I took it's picture and then tried to find out what it was. I have had not luck finding out what it is.
I was out checking out a swamp and saw this guy come and perch. Caught a few shots as he took off. I have tried to capture these guys before without much sucess. Here is what I got.
Mother Osprey arrives back at the nest on the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell, NJ back on 4-18-2009. Father Osprey was waiting quite a while for her return and had a few questions as to why she was not bringing him back a nice tasty fish. Thanks to SkeletalMess (aka Jerry Jones) for use of the...
Taken last weekend in Northeast Pa. Watched this nest for about 4 hours and saw plenty of activity. They seemed to mate just about as often as they brought sticks in. This pair always seems to give me plenty of photo opps when I visit them. First time up this spring and it looks like they are...
I found a nest. I could not see anything in it until I zoomed it in on the camera and then checked it out real good on the computer. It is a Bald Eagle nest but I cannot get any closer because it is on posted land.:doh (Photo is cropped) The first photo I took I could see white and yellow,...
Isn't it kinda early to see Blue Birds here in Upstate NY isn't it? I'm located in Broome County. I took this April 1st in my back yard! NO it's no fool'in!!
For anyone who always wanted to photograph a Great Horned Owl nest and chicks........now is the time to find those nests! Best bet is to check all your local hawk nests. GHO's are the first to nest and usually take over a healthy looking hawk nest before the hawk pair return . At this point in...
Taken a few weeks back, the day after the big snowstorm hit the area. it was actually still snowing lightly on and off when I took these. Hiked around in 3 foot snow all day to get these guys. I need a camera with better ISO performance! 1. 2.
Thought you said there was plenty of good food here? All I see is shells and old corn cobs. Well I got an Idea, what do ya say I start pulling out some tail feathers and chewing on those? :D
I had a couple of Red-Tailed Hawks move in a few houses down from me. I hope they stick around, they are awesome! :D Preparing for liftoff. We have liftoff! Searching for prey.
Horribly shot, but my very first Golden Eagle photo and sighting, so I will take it :) Huge crop on this one, this guy was riding the thermals. Juvenile Golden Eagle, taken at Liberty Marsh Sunday 3-06-10
Downy Woodpecker that is. Mostly see the males at the feeder not to often the female.
Nice red-tailed hawk stopped by during the snow-icane yesterday, to eye ball all the birds and squirrels at my feeder. A little too deep in the woods for a crystal clear shot, but kind of cool nonetheless. :D Don't mess with those Talons!
Couple of shots I was able to get thru the window and the rain. 1 of the 2 Mourning Doves to visit The Red-Bellied Woodpecker with the very bright red head. :D Wish the branches weren't in the way
You folks are used to seeing me post shots of the larger Raptors, but here are a few I shot last Sunday up in Sullivan County of a few of the smaller birds in the area. Was out Eagle searching, but the only quality shots i got were of these fellows. In order Red Breasted Nuthatch White...
Short ear Owls from the Shawangunk Grasslands Saturday. No light again, every time I get out it is overcast :( Still, these are my best shots of these guys all winter, so I will take them :) 1. 2. 3. This one came in real close to get a better look at me.
Anyone know what is the names of these two birds? Thanks!
