Took a boat out for a ride down the Hudson... with the intention of getting some train shots... not too many trains but did catch a ton of birds.. including two immature Bald Eagles... in lieu of the processing I have to do here is a little teaser and I will post more possibly today...

Stuyvesant, NY on the Hudson...hand held...

Canon 1D Mark II, Canon 500L, Canon 2x TC II

Here are the rest of the shots... the day was insanely gray and overcast... and we were lucky to get away with not getting wet... we dodged two huge storms by only minutes... you will see those shots on another thread coming soon...

Another bald eagle that didnt let us get anywhere close... he was protecting the nest on the next shot...

I have been watching this roost for 2 years now... its a healthy mating pair that comes back every season... and since its on an island its fairly secluded...

Blue Heron actually sitting in the next tree over from the close eagle shots we were getting... I guess the eagle must not think they are much of a meal..

Heres the close up young immature again on another pose... in perspective we were about 50-75ft away and I was shooting handheld up at him with the 500L and 2x... it was pretty tiresome shooting that combo straight up...

Another immature bald that was blooming his whites... that means this bird is probably getting close to 3 years old and will probably be fully white-headed next season...

Yeh, Ross is an animal with that 500L. I was with him chasing eagles last winter and a couple of A-10s flew over and he just hoisted that thing up and fired away. I had the 400L and by the time I was even looking at my monopod to think about lifting it up, they were gone and got perfect shots. Admittedly the 500L is a little lighter, but still... not to many people will shoot the 500L handheld.

LOL I am not an animal... but you should certainly try shooting at 1000mm handheld in a boat... I can say I had a few less "keepers" than normal...LOL

Good work , Ross, esp considering you were hand held in a boat.
