A little mixed feelings today - I caught the USS Providence (SSN 719) heading for sea as well as P&W train NR-2. Too bad they were seperated by quite literally 30 seconds! Oh, well, here's a couple shots of the Providence on her way south. She did meet a couple other interesting things along the way!

1. USS Providence/USS Nautilus meet

2. USS Providence/Thames River Drawbridge

3. USS Providence/US Coast Guard cutter Eagle meet #1

3. USS Providence/US Coast Guard cutter Eagle meet #2

3. USS Providence and the Ledge Light

That thing is pretty flippin scarey looking... when you think about what it can do.

Mike - yeah, I know what you mean. And this is only an attack boat, not a missle sub! I'm not sure where they were going - there was quite a few civilians on the deck as they were heading out, then they all went below decks before hitting the Long Island Sound. Also there was no gunner on the sail as they usually have when they're leaving for a tour.

Aron - Thanks! The only boardwalk around that I'm familiar with is over in New London by Shaw's Cove. I was standing on a little observation platform on the UConn Avery Point campus for the Ledge Light shot.

Here's another - I guess you could call it "pleasure and pain" in the light of what Mike said. :D
