Hey guys, I need some help. I seem to be having problems with the auto focus on my Rebel XT. It seems at times it focuses past the subject and others just can't seem to focus on it at all. Any suggestions?

What focus point are you currently on... what are your settings on the camera? Is there adequate lighting?

It occurs in all modes - P/TV/AV - it's as if the lens can not lock onto any specific area of the subject. The most recent incident was yesterday when shooting sunflowers. It's definitely in the AF position. Seems to be occuring more often. I was wondering if the lenses I am using could be a problem. I have the 18-55mm EF lens that came with it, then I use a 28-70mm from my Canon EOS 620 and the new Tokina 80-400mm. My boyfriend says it's time to have "MY" autofocus checked ;^)

are you inside of the minimum focusing distance... are all the lenses doing the same thing... and do they not focus at any distance?

If they dont they I would agree that you may need to send in your XT for a cleaning/calibration...

yeah, if youre too close, youll have a problem, try focusing on something far away like a tree or house, also, try to focus on something with good contrast.
