Well tax time has come and definately gone... I decided you cant go to the grave with it so I went and made a HUGE purchase from a guy out of Boston (who has joined the site also)...

Today Dean braved the cold for a few laps so I could test it out...

He is running regular studs on this bike... those spikes are probably canadian races or such... he doesnt think that they are AMA legal...

Welcome to the 200 f/1.8 club Ross. I had mine out tonight too, but in much warmer conditions at Albany Academy's gym for a basketball game.

Yup the AMA does sanction ice races... although this location is strictly a practice location...

The studs allow cornering at full speed... in those pics he was doing maybe 50mph or so...

WOW Ross... great lens, and awesome pics. Might be a little on the contrasty side on the 3rd shot - but I think you nailed em!

Yeah I am big on the *pop*... actually though I did very little processing... it was just late in the afternoon... and the person was wearing a very dark coverall... normally the picture wouldnt be as bad if he was wearing racing gear... I had to take what I could get...LOL

Ross, loking at that lens, I think its got more switches on it than my whole camera...lol what a great lens!

This lens actually has less switches I think than the IS white lenses. The switches are as follows:

Focus Range - 2.5m - Infinity, 2.5m - 5mm, and 5m - Infinity
Autofocus - AF, MF
Focus Preset - Off, On, Set (spring loaded)
Audible Focus - On, Off
Manual Focus Speed - 1, 2, 3

The Focus Preset allows you to pick a spot and pre-focus. Then you can be looking at other things and focussing on them. If you want to jump back to the pre-focus spot, you just bump a ring on the lens... just inside the focus ring... and it will instantly snap back to the pre-focus spot without hunting. Say you are shooting baseball and want to be ready for a steal to second... you prefocus there. Then you go about your shooting of the batter, first base, etc... and you see a steal in the making... you can instantly lock back on that spot without having to wait for the camera to catch up with you and hunt for, then track, the subject.

Congrats Ross on the newest addition to your lens family. :tup

Great shots.... ice racing IS fun... I used to race on the ice with my Honda 250R quad... back in the day.. I raced in the studded AND non-studded class. Fun!:happy
