A Providence & Worcester train, manned by a P&W crew, on P&W rails in Willimantic, CT. Took a half day yesterday (1/25/07) to cover the move of P&W train NR-3 past Versailles, CT, traversing the recently rehabbed dormant section of track between Versailles & Willimantic. The move was only light engines, and a trailing hyrail for most of the way - they picked up a pair of loaded gons of ties in Baltic on the return trip. Here the train is passing in front of the former American Thread mills in Willimantic, CT, just east of the NECR yard. The train proceeded into the yard, and to within 10 yards or so of the switch connecting the P&W main to the NECR main.

Sure is weird seeing that. So are they going to be running a daily freight to Willimantic starting soon?

Thanks guys!

Probably not daily - my guess is only a couple moves a month for now. This is primarily for the autorack traffic out of Davisville, RI, and it may also include some GF interchange for the NECR, but I've heard that most of that will still occur in New London as most of what the NECR gives to P&W heads west on the Corridor to Middletown & New Haven. But the first revenue train should be happening soon - well, as soon as the NECR finishes up lowering the Bellows Falls, VT tunnel floor.
