Another volleyball match... this one was pretty lop-sided, so not a lot of shooting opportunities. Here are a few shots. Same gym as before... horrible lighting... ISO1600, f/2, 1/400s, and a stop underexposed. With 1-2 more stops of light, these would be very different pictures.

1. 1DMk2N, 200 f/1.8, 1/400s, f/1.8, ISO1600

2. 1DMk2N, 135 f/2, 1/400s, f/2, ISO1600

3. 1DMk2N, 135 f/2, 1/400s, f/2, ISO1600

4. 1DMk2N, 15 f/2.8 Fisheye, 1/250s, f/2.8, ISO1600

Hi Mike,

I haven't been around the site much as I've been busy with school. It's nice to see you still posting lots of sports photos up. I like the compression shot you have there...those are hard to get.

keep shooting, see you around.

Hi Dave... how are things? Be sure to post some of your work... and tell all your classmates at RIT about the site! We'd love to have more students in the mix. We could even setup a separate forum for you guys on here if you wanted.

Excellent shots, Mike. The white balance is spot on and so is the focus. The only thing I can see that's a little off is the horizon in pic #1. I hope you don't mind me pointing this out. I figure we have to look out for each other this way :). Also, these pics look very good for being shot at -1 ev. What software did you use in PP?

Thanks for the feedback Ian. I love good C&C... so never feel like you are going to hurt my feelings no matter what you think. We don't get better if we aren't critical of each other's work.

I used an Expodisc to set the WB, and that has always worked pretty well in this particular gym. I noticed the horizon on that one two, but was too lazy to go back and reprocess it. I generally do everything in PS CS2, which I did here.

We have similar lens choices for indoor sports, so it will be fun chatting with you through the seasons. I shot a 20D last year sometimes, and I just bumped the lens line-up up a notch when I started shooting with only the 1 series.... so the 50/85/135 primes moved to 85/135/200 primes. I just throw that out there for comparison sake as we look at images.

I have a big volleyball game this afternoon in that same gym, so I'll hopefully post some more tonight.
