I'm looking for a good point and shoot, something good for vivid color... within the like $250 - 300 range... if they even exist... anyone have suggestions?

Good question and I have asked the same one before. What features are you looking for, fully automatic, programable, etc etc? This link (http://www.northeastfoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3679) is to a thread where everyone has listed the P&S cameras they have. As for me like that thread says I have a Canon S2-IS which was alittle more than $300.

Not a problem, not trying to take away from your question but trying to add to my answer. I have heard alot of good things about Fuji point and shoots as well. A friend of mine has one and takes great pictures.

Well it came as a gift from the moderators on the other site and carried over here when this site was created.

B&H Photo has the Canon PowerShot S2 IS, 5.0 Megapixel 12x Optical/4x Digital zoom
for $309 I know it's a tad over the max, but I think it's pretty good P&S camera seems to have a lot of bang for the buck.

Thanks a lot for that, I will definitely look into it... what I like is the high optical zoom.... I don't think digital zoom is worth much... tends to really make the pics grainy, etc.

Thanks to ZR2Blazer for the tip on the Sony as well!

I agree about digital zoom, to coin a very technical term about it. "it's poop", one of the great features on the Canon is the flip screen, great for taking shots over your head or doing macros without having to bend way down.

Yeah... was gonna say the poop thing... but I have a potty mouth so decided against.... oooooohhhhhhhh flip screen!!! Sounds fun... and worth going slightly over budget for... Thanks so much again!:D

I know Target has a Panasonic Luminux 6.1 with IS for like $200.It doesnt have a EVF but with IS it shouldnt matter that much.I am not quite sure what the actual series # but I am going to look at it for my wife and maybe my own pocket camera.
