Didn't want to further hijack Zacker's Essex thread, so here's a new one for you. I was lucky enough to get a cab ride in #97 a few years ago (I traded an 8x10 of this picture (http://www.nanosphoto.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-347) for the cab ride ;) ). Here's a few slide scans from that ride for your viewing pleasure!

One thing, I was sweating my butt off! As a precaution I wore jeans and safety shoes (boots), and let me tell you, with the backhead right there (I was sitting in the fireman's seat on the left side of the cab), it was freaking hot! But worth every drop of sweat... :D And #97 has a bit of a personal meaning to me. The first time I rode the Essex Steam Train was back in 1977 when I was 8 years old, and #97 was pulling the train that day. Click here (http://www.railfanzone.com/vrr-tjn.jpg) to see the picture of me posing in front of her at the end of the day. :D

Enjoy!
Tom

If I was rubbing it in, I'd also post my ride on an oiginal NYNH&H RS-1 that's still operating in revenue service here in CT... ;)

I sure as hell wasn't turning him down! :D Especially with the personal twist to the ride on 97. Now I just need to sit in the right hand seat for a while and operate her...but that'll cost me (http://www.essexsteamtrain.com/throttle.html) a few hundred bucks to do... ;)
