This guy made me late for work Monday morning lol... I was driving in and there he was sitting, right alongside the highway... so of course I pulled over and tracked him as he hopped from tree to tree, trying to get away from me :D

I would NOT take my DOG on a hike thru a preserve. HELLO people...... :Hammer

You took some nice shots Ross, but I know they would have been better if there weren't idiots out there being noisey in an area that should be peaceful and serene.

well the general consensus is that EVERYONE walks there with a dog...LOL

now lets put this whole thing into perspective... Trish, Johnny, and I are walking in... camera and lenses at the ready because we have already seen this hawk sitting there on this tree... I look back and see these people coming but they are pretty far back so I figured they would slow down and let us get closer and shoot... well low and behold no sooner then I take 2 shots and they are already caught up to us... and the a-hole guy goes "Lots of redtail hawks around, you should have no problems shooting one with that lens" as they pass us by and scare the hawk off his perch.... f-en a-holes

i love the wing span pics ross took and that one's where hes checkin you out trish... kinda creepy... definately protecting his terriority.. really cool... what lenses did u use? the 500?

Orgnoi1

yeah we were both on the 500 and Johnny had his 400 out... the shots I posted are painstakenly cropped tight because the hawk was WAY out... and luckily a lot of shots with my 500 come out clear at 100%... so these were close to 100% <sigh> I probably cropped 1000 pixels on either side of the bird...

well if you are going to look for a lens keep an eye out for a Tamron 200-400mm or 200-500mm they are considerably cheaper then Canons lenses... or if you can find a Sigma 50-500mm like Trish has used....
