I can go right up behind the mx track and have a beautiful view of the night lights of the Utica/Deerfield area. :thumb

We've sat up there in the summer on the quads just chatting and enjoying the view. :drool

This WILL be a challenge for me, not sure if I have a good enough lens for it, but I'll give 'er a try. :thumb

Hmmm...makin me go out in the friggin cold for this one....I'll remember that Ross!!!:Neener I'll have to find a nice clear night with the moon up where I live and give it a shot...I know the theory behind these shots but have never actually tried them....guess its time to pull out the tripod and wireless remote that came with the Elan II!!!

Doesnt have to be a clear night... broaden your horizons a little...

Well, it's been snowing pretty hard here at night, and blocking ANY view of a nightscape. :Hammer

We are going to be in Corning for the weekend, I'm hoping to have some luck there. :D

uh oh...only today and tomorrow...

You're gonna be disappointed in me..... and PROUD. LOL

I FORGOT the tripod when I went to Corning this past weekend...... BUT.... I improvised and got a descent pic anyway. :D

It needs to be resized...... and I don't think I'm gonna do anything else with it.... post it AS IS. ;)

uh oh... she is getting cocky...LOL

LOL Actually, I'm proud I was ABLE to improvise and got a descent shot concidering it's my FIRST try at nightscapes. MUCH room for improvement of course, BUT... given the conditions ALL the way around (no tripod, no experience with this, and it was snowing like crazy....) I got a halfway descent night shot. :thumb

Me.... cocky... :blush

:wm

Okay, this was my VERY first real attempt at night shooting. I referred to a thread posted awhile back where Ross and Trish had taken photos of Albany's nightscapes. (Yupp, gotta be resourceful)

We went to Corning, NY over the weekend and stayed at the Hampton Inn..... directly across the way was a view of The Corning Glass "factory".... It snowed like crazy over the weekend and the winds were aweful. So, at that point, my only option was to shoot from our hotel room....

Forgot the tripod.... :doh So I improvised by securing the camera on top of my camera bag and set it on the heater by the window..... I had earlier opened the window and reached out and cleaned the outside, closed the window then cleaned the inside...... Nice clear window to shoot from, cuz I KNEW I wasn't going to shoot with the window open.... the wind would have blown my camera OFF it's spot.

I set myself up with the settings I felt would work and shot about 30 pics......(yes, I used a remote..... minimizing ANY camera shake) :tup

with only 3 of them worthy of saving.... one which was worth really playing around with and saving to share......

(I'm sending Ross the original full-sized so he can get the info off from it) :tup

Here it be.....

http://www.northeastmoto.com/forums/gallery/files/1/7/NiteScape0707_10040.jpg

I KNOW I can do better, BUT..... I felt "not bad" for my first attempt. ;)

Come on people..... submit some images...... It's fun. :happy

ZR2Blazer
02-28-2006, 08:42 AM
OK.....so for this contest all that is needed is a pic at night without use of a flash :dunno

Maybe i'll try to get a pic tonight :dunno

Orgnoi1
02-28-2006, 09:03 AM
yep... on the original picture you right click go to properties... then to summary and advanced... do a screenshot and post it along with the pic... or you can just type it out... more or less interested in aperature/shutter/white balance/ISO

CruzinGirl
02-28-2006, 11:19 AM
hmmmm...i'll have to try that when I get back home!!! Didn't know I coudl did that, lol...learn something new everyday!

ok, i put the 9 shots i took last night in the gallery...don't know why it doesn't show the shot in the preview section but its there if you click on it. I have it narrowed down to 4 and have to makea choice before tomorrow!!!

Ok, this was a hard decision for me because of the 9 pictures I posted I liked them all for different quality reasons....I have been back over them 6 times now since I posted them and this one I settled on.
ISO800
WB-Cloudy
light source was a spotlight on our garage to the left of where the pic was taken, I took the pic while standing in the dark to the rear of the garage.

The reason I settled on this one was because of the transition of the light from bottom to top....feel free to critique my pics and give advice now that I have posted my submission, goodness knows i have a lot to learn in night shots!!!! I really should have taken a flashlight out with me so I could change settings while outside, since I don't know the camera well enough yet to do it without looking!
