I am interested in buying a IR converted camera. It seems that this would be easier than using the filter on my camera now. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what camera to buy and where the best place to get one is?

There are two major places to get IR cameras modified... lifepixel.com and maxmax.com ... one is on the east coast... one west... maxmax only does 715nm, 830nm and clear glass conversions... lifepixel does 665nm, 715nm, 900nm (guessing the 900 range) and clear glass conversions...

I have one camera from each place... an XT in 715nm and an XTi in 665nm... both are excellent conversions, maxmax being the faster turn around but they lack the 665nm conversion which I wanted also... the higher the number the less faux color you can do in processing... so thats something you need to decide about... I personally wouldnt do a clear glass on a SLR camera as you will have to add a filter still... but on a point N shoot it works fantastic...

MaxMax = $450 + $20 return shipping
LifePixel = $325 (715nm) or $375 (665nm or ?900nm?)

Also with Lifepixel, they must re-calibrate the camera with a lens the default is a 1.4 50mm, if you dont have this glass you should also plan to send along a spare lens that you would commonly use.

Say an F2.8 to F4.0.. ;)

I had an XTi converted.. I absolutely love it!
