Thanks for the comment!

The Sigma DP1 is what I would call a Digital Compact. Point & Shoot, to me, is really "just turn it on and don't think about it" cameras. I posted this here because the DP1 is is in that size class. The DP1 takes a little more work but the output quality is well worth it!

The big difference is the DP1 has a Foveon X3 APS-C sized sensor in a compact body. The body is much smaller than even the Oly E420.

The DP1 also has a top grade 28mm equivalent prime lens.

The net effect is DSLR image quality in a size that you can carry around almost everywhere.

Hey Britton,

Nice shots. Looks like achieving shallow dof will not be a problem with this camera.

Does not the DP-1 have the same sensor as my SD14, but with a better processor?

Thanks Ian!

Yes, the DP1 has the same 14MP (4.7MPX3) Foveon sensor as the SD14. They developed a new image processing processor which, by some accounts, is superior to the one in the SD14. There is rumor of an SD15 coming later this year which would have the same sensor but would include the advances made during the DP1's development.

Thanks Ian!

Here's a couple of size comparison shots I found on flickr comparing the DP1 with the SD14.

All come from Seng Merril's collection on Flickr:

How big is the SD14? which canon DSLR does it compare to. It doesn't look too huge. Is it like Rebel XT size?

Ian may be able to answer this one since he has an SD14.
