Ok, as most of you know I'm not too informed when it comes to Lighting. I'm working on it, I swear :)......question is.......I use a Sigma EF 500 Flash and I am looking for something that might give off more light and work a further distance then mine does.

I need to keep the cost under $200. Do you have any suggestions.

My flash works pretty well but it doesn't power off enough light during distance shots. I have 2 upcoming events that I will be doing for work which involve low light and me taking the photos from a distances.

I know, I know.....mmmm, I might beable to move up to $250 but that would be the highest I could go.

I have still been saving for my 85mm 1.8 and at this rate I will never get that lens....:(

I was going to say that the Canon flash has really gone down in price and then I seen it was refurbished. Thanks for the link Orgnoi1, I might consider that since that was the flash I have been wanting. (just not sure about buying refurbished).

Buying refurbished is completely fine... its fully tested by Canon and a lot of times it never went to a customer but was an open box or such... you should have no worries about doing it...

i think the 430ex might not be as strong as the 500 (eg?) sigma but i could be wrong... how much is a better beamer? those are supposed to work well.

I use canon flashes, and I will say that I started with the 430Ex, and I have never wned to mix brands, so I eventualy got the 580EX II to be the master. I am planning some out door work with it to try some new shoot styles with it. But I have yet to get out to do that till march.

I would recomend the 430 EX its my main weapon of choice for some no BS shooting, and constantly messing with the flash, and its REALLY cool, as it will get the signal from the onboard flash of your camera (built in) with the 430 EX in slave mode.

Yeah, I wish I did know this because I wouldn't want to buy the 430 just to find out it works the same as my Sigma....:doh :)

I don't know much about Sigma flashes, but a quick search of Canon and Sigma websites shows the 430EX with a GN of 141 ft at ISO 100 and the Sigma EF 500 DG ST (don't know if this is your exact model) with a GN of 165 ft. Not sure if we're comparing apples to apples here but, on the surface, it looks like the Sigma is stronger.

Ok, this may be a dumb question but is there another way to add more light along with using my existing flash? It would have to be something I could carry around with me (not like my new studio lights).

Yeap, thats the one I own. Well thanks for researching that for me. Its been a great flash, I was just seeing if there was another out there that was stronger then mine.
